1000 Active nodes running Lightning Network in the main Bitcoin network

Lightning Network 1000 active nodes running in Bitcoin Network milestone

On Tuesday, March 13, the number of active nodes on Lightning Network (LN) in the main bitcoin network exceeded the mark of 1000. This is indicated by the data of the corresponding tracker.

So, at the time of publication, 1006 LN Active Nodes functioned in the Bitcoin mainnet and 1863 channels were opened.

Lightning Network can become the answer to a low commission for Bitcoin and altcoins. In turn, developers are convinced that full-scale activation of the protocol can be one of the most important events in the history of the existence of “digital gold”.

This became especially important against the backdrop of sharks that grew in 2017 in the bitcoin network: in addition to instant payments without waiting for confirmation and potentially higher level of user privacy, one of the main advantages of LN is the decrease in transaction costs.

In December of last year, another important step was taken towards the implementation of LN: Bitrefill developer Alex Bosworth said that he made the first Lightning transaction in the main Bitcoin network, paying with the protocol his own phone bill.

“Speed: Instant. Fee: Zero. Future: Almost Here,” – he wrote then.

It should be noted that as early as mid-January, the number of active LN nodes in the bitcoin mainnet was only 35.

The first Lightning-transaction with zero commission in the Lightning network was implemented in September 2017. In addition, in late February 2018, crypto-enthusiast Laszlo Hanyecz, known as the first person in the world who has bought material goods with Bitcoins, repeated the experiment but this time using the LN protocol.
