Apple Inc.’s iPhone SE 4 will reportedly support the US tech giant’s generative artificial intelligence (AI) feature suite once it launches next year, potentially providing users with a more capable, budget-friendly smartphone.
The report stated that the Cupertino-based firm might begin mass production of its fourth-generation iPhone SE in October, with an expected release date of March 2025.
The handset will allegedly feature Apple Intelligence, the company’s on-device AI functions that have only been integrated into the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max. It might also feature a 6.1-inch OLED display and replace its original iPhone 8-style body with a newer one based on the iPhone 14.
Choosing iPhone SE 4 Over Higher-End Models
With the potential inclusion of genAI features and an upgraded design, iPhone owners and enthusiasts may see a more robust and modern version of Apple’s most affordable smartphone line.
The iPhone 16, due for a September launch, could sport features beyond what the iPhone SE 4 may offer, such as dual cameras and the iPhone 15 Pro’s action button.
However, the fourth-gen device may become a better option for prospective buyers if it adopts the iPhone 14 design and demonstrates performance identical to the higher-end iPhone 16 models.
Apple Intelligence needs an A17 Pro chip and a minimum RAM size of 8 gigabytes (GB) to operate on iPhones, suggesting that the upcoming iPhone SE 4 might feature similar hardware to the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 16, which will have an A18 chipset.
Such performance-design balance combined with affordability could challenge the case for spending more on higher iPhone lines.
Moreover, the iPhone SE 4 has the potential to become a big seller if Apple can offer it for around $500, although that remains uncertain. The integration of Apple Intelligence and the hardware upgrades may also have the opposite effect, increasing the handset’s price further than the iPhone SE 3, which currently retails for over $400.
