Apple May Skip Spring Event 2024 for New iPad, Mac Releases

US tech giant Apple Inc. reportedly has no plans to host a spring event this year despite having a new suite of products poised for launch in the season.

Bloomberg Television tech correspondent Mark Gurman stated that instead of a major special event, the iPhone maker will announce its new product lineups through online videos and campaigns on its website.

For April, the Cupertino-based company is set to release new iPad Pro models with OLED displays, a new lineup of iPad Air that includes the first version with a 12.9-inch display, a new M3 chip-equipped MacBook Air, and reportedly a new Apple Pencil and redesigned Magic Keyboard for the iPad Pro.

As to when the aforementioned devices may be introduced, the report said Apple is working on a special iOS 17.4 to support the new hardware for the end of this month.

Gurman expects the products to launch around March or next month.

Apple Having No Spring Event 2024 is Perhaps Reasonable

Apple having no spring event is not unusual, as it skipped one in 2023 and has not hosted one in the past years.

Still, not conducting such a special event at this time would be unexpected, considering the wide selection of devices the firm will announce later this year.

The iPad Pro with OLED and M3 chip is likely to be the center of attention, as the company’s flagship tablet mainly had been the same since its update in 2018 when it adopted a flat design style that also characterized its smartphones, laptops, and iMac.

Additionally, the 12.9-inch iPad Air model, to be released alongside the 10.9-inch version, would be the iPhone maker’s first new iPads in over a year.

There was not much information about the new rumored Apple Pencil, only that the device is expected to have interchangeable magnetic tips that adjust its features to different artworks, and it may include a Find My built-in.

Reports have also projected a spring timetable for introducing the M3 MacBook Air with 13- and 15-inch displays.

However, aside from the chip upgrade and better display, the new laptops are not expected to have significant updates, although it would be the first refresh for the 13-inch model since June 2022.

Apple is packed with new hardware that may call for a spring event this year, but not having one may be the right move. There is currently no news from the tech giant about new chips it could be working on, and it is yet to be known how significant a larger iPad Air will be for customers.

Moreover, massive excitement is not expected to arise from a scenario where the company introduces additional modifications on the iPad Pro on top of the screen.
