According to reports, Apple plans to debut a foldable iPhone in 2026, marking a new era in its product line.
Reports also indicated that the California-based company was in the early phase of developing two folding device prototypes.
Moreover, the iPhone maker reportedly settled on its design, which has an internal name of V68. The concept has advanced beyond the initial stage and is currently being developed by suppliers.
Meanwhile, Apple is reportedly continuing to reduce the visible crease when the phone is unfolded and to make the device thinner. This aligns with Tuesday’s report, which shares similar information about the firm’s plans for a folding phone.
Furthermore, recent rumors indicate that Apple is developing a MacBook-like foldable device that could begin shipping in 2026.
At the same time, reports suggest that the tech giant might be planning to enhance next year’s iPhone with a mechanical aperture, enabling users to create a depth-of-field effect that blurs the background while keeping the subject sharp.
In addition to the rumored foldable phone, Apple anticipates introducing several other product updates in the coming years.
The company’s iPhone 16 is set to launch in September this year. It reportedly will have a new button for taking images and videos.
Galaxy Z Flip 8 to Face Apple Foldable iPhone
Apple’s reportedly plans to debut a flip-style foldable iPhone will likely challenge Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip 8.
According to reports, the first foldable iPhone will feature a top-down folding form factor, similar to the Galaxy Z Flip 6.
Additionally, its dimensions are expected to be comparable to current iPhones when unfolding. This device will likely compete with the Galaxy Z Flip 8, which might be released in the second half of 2026.
Meanwhile, the iPhone maker has reportedly signed a display panel supply contract with Samsung Display, which is great news for Samsung.
While a foldable iPhone presents a significant challenge, Samsung possibly earns substantial revenue by supplying foldable OLED panels.
