US tech giant Apple Inc. has introduced a new upgrade to the Beats Studio Pro, announcing the 2C301 firmware update that allows its subsidiary’s top-end wireless headphones to facilitate multi-user audio sharing.
The feature, also one of AirPods’ essential functions, enables an iPhone or iPad to share a single piece of music or other audio with multiple pairs of headphones at the same time.
The addition provides a more attractive option for users seeking a headset capable of audio sharing beyond the AirPods Max, which, compared to the Studio Pro that currently retails for $349.99, comes at a higher price of $549.00.
Audio Sharing Finally Arrives on Beats Studio Pro
Beats products, including BeatsX Earbuds, Powerbeats Pro, Powerbeats 3, Solo3, and Studio 3, adopted multi-user audio sharing upon their introduction in 2019.
The function was previously only exclusive to all the Cupertino-based company’s headphones and AirPods powered by its proprietary W1 and H-series chips.
However, the premium version of Beats’ over-ear device received a different chip from the AirPods line, which may have been the reason the feature was not immediately available.
The Studio Pro has been equipped with the brand’s custom processor, designed to ensure its cross-platform functions run properly on Apple and Android devices. Beats headphones have become one of the preferred headset choices for Android users.
Regular users of the headphones should have the new firmware update automatically installed. The feature is also expected to have no trouble starting via iPhones and iPads’ AirPlay software.
Users should be able to find a Share Audio option they can tap on in the AirPlay audio panel, which can be accessed from the Control Center. The option is also available on Apple devices’ lock screens when audio is being played.
However, Studio Pro’s multi-user audio-sharing feature has yet to be included in Android devices.
