AU’s S&P/ASX 200 up 0.43%; Japan’s Nikkei 225 down 0.42%

The S&P/ASX 200 gained 0.43% at the close in Sydney, with Treasury Wine Estates Ltd as the best performers of the session.

On Monday, Australia stocks were higher after the close, with gains in the gold, metals & mining, and materials sectors’ leading shares.

At the close, the Treasury Wine Estates Ltd rose 6.40% or 0.660 points to trade at 10.970. Moreover, Silver Lake Resources Ltd added 6.01% or 0.085 points to end at 1.500. Janus Henderson Group PLC DRC added 5.23% or 1.95 points to 39.22 

The session’s worst performers were Zip Co Ltd. They fell 6.69% or 0.64 points to trade at 8.92 at the close. 

Kogan.com Ltd slumped 5.03% or 0.69 points to end at 13.03. Smartgroup Corporation Ltd dropped 4.63% or 0.31 points to 6.39.

On the Sydney Stock Exchange, rising stocks exceeded declining ones by 738 to 583, and 362 ended unchanged.

The S&P/ASX 200 VIX was up 9.68% to 18.222, a new 3-month high.

Japan Stocks Ended Lower, Nikkei 225 Down 0.42%

On Monday, Japan stocks were lower after the close. Losses in the Paper & Pulp, Railway & Bus, and Real Estate sectors led to lower shares.

The session’s best performers on the Nikkei 225 were JFE Holdings, Inc. They rose 5.18% or 62.0 points to trade at 1260.0 at the close. Moreover, Tokyo Electric Power Co., Inc. added 5.08% or 18.0 points to end at 372.0. Kobe Steel, Ltd. gained 4.95% or 35.0 points to 742.0.

The session’s worst performers were Ricoh Co., Ltd. They fell 6.27% or 76.0 points to trade at 1137.0 at the close. Furthermore, CyberAgent Inc declined 4.49% or 300.0 points to end at 6380.0. Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. dropped 3.76% or 78.0 points to 1995.0.

On the Tokyo Stock Exchange, rising stocks exceeded declining ones by 1954 to 1558, and 235 ended unchanged.

JFE Holdings, Inc. shares rose to 52-week highs. That’s up 5.18% or 62.0 to 1260.0. 

Kobe Steel, Ltd. shares rose to 52-week highs. That’s up 4.95% or 35.0 to 742.0.

The Nikkei Volatility was unchanged from 0% to 26.61.

Elsewhere, European stock markets opened mixed on Monday. Investors were disappointed about higher U.S. Treasury yields despite growing hopes for a global economic recovery from the pandemic.

The DAX futures contract in Germany traded 0.3% lower at 2:05 AM ET (0705 GMT). CAC 40 futures in France added 0.8%, and the FTSE 100 futures contract in the U.K. slid 0.2%.
