BioNTech Deals with First German Lawsuit

On Monday, BioNTech would go to court to face a lawsuit from a German woman seeking damages for its alleged COVID-19 vaccine side effects.

Its stock price went up by 0.26% to $109.25 per share on June 09. The company is being sued for at least $161,500.00 by the woman.

According to the regional court in Hamburg, the company was sued for damages for bodily harm. Also, compensation was required due to unspecified material damage. The law firm Rogert & Ulbrich would be representing the woman’s case.

It was claimed that she experienced upper-body pain, swollenness, sleeping disorder and fatigue because of the BioNTech vaccine.

Moreover, drug and vaccine makers can only pay for damages if medical science proves some factors. This includes situations like their products causing harm relative to benefits or wrong label information. The German pharmaceutical law states this.

BioNTech concluded that the case was without merit after careful consideration. Additionally, the firm holds marketing authorization in Germany for products made with Pfizer.

The European Medicines Agency reaffirmed the benefit of all the shots it approved. It said the vaccines helped almost 20 million lives around the globe within the first year of the pandemic alone. Furthermore, the Comirnaty from BioNTech was the most commonly used in the Western world.

COVID Vaccine Trial of BioNTech Began

Tobias Ulrich, the lawyer representing the woman, said he would challenge German health regulators. He mentioned that the Comirnaty of BioNTech jab had a favorable risk-benefit profile.

Also, the EMA conceded that there is minimal risk, mainly to young males, of two kinds of heart inflammation. The two types are myocarditis and pericarditis, following the shot.

The agency mentioned that almost 1.7 million registered spontaneous reports of suspected side effects in May. It amounts to 0.20 for every 100 doses.

In addition, many vaccinations against illnesses, including the ones from BioNTech, can produce adverse side effects. Typically, they are temporary and limited to fever, headache, and fatigue.
