Instagram reported that the firm has been testing hiding like counts on its platform for a while. However, now is time to announce that every user on Instagram and Facebook will have the option to hide their public like counts.
The company spokesperson said they tested hiding “like” counts to see if Instagram might become undesirable for people and depressurize people’s experiences. However, it turned out that not seeing like counts was beneficial for some. Overall, users were happy to see a new feature. Besides, it wasn’t very pleasant to others as people use like counts to get a sense of what’s trending or popular. Hence, the social media giant gave us the option to choose.
Starting Today, Customers Will Be Able to Hide Like Counts on All Posts
Starting today, customers will have the option to hide like counts on all posts in their feed. They will also have the opportunity to hide like counts on their own posts, so others can’t see how many likes their posts get.
Notably, customers can hide like counts on others’ posts by visiting the new Posts section in Settings. This control applies to all the posts in their feed.
Additionally, users can also choose to hide counts before sharing a post. Meanwhile, it’s essential to mention that they can also turn this setting on or off, even after it is posted.
According to companies, people want more flexibility, so it is essential to give people the option. In the next few weeks, customers will see both of these controls come to Facebook.
