Google Kicks-off the New Android 16 Development

On Monday, Google started the development of the latest version of its mobile operating system (OS), Android 16.

The move from the search engine giant comes at a time when most smartphones have not yet acquired the 15th update of the OS.

In line with this, news reveals that the latest Android will be called Baklava. It was also indicated that its release is not expected before the second quarter of 2025.

Based on reports, Google will incorporate a few notable changes in the upcoming update. More specifically, the company is altering the Quick Setting menu gesture.

Additionally, users only need to make a single-finger swipe on the right half of the status bar. This is a simple enhancement from the earlier version’s two-finger gesture to access the settings.

Prior to this, the new command was spotted in a particular Beta update but was not available by default.

On top of that, Google is enabling the resizing of Quick Settings tiles in Android 16. It is a significant upgrade as the previous one did not allow any customization.

At the same time, setting up 16 tiles in the latest edition of the OS will be possible. Combining differently sized tiles, from big to small, in the panel is also part of the update.

Gemini App to be Launched by Google for iOS Users

As indicated by reports, Google may roll out a standalone Gemini application for iOS.

In connection, users allegedly downloaded the app from the App Store and tested it out. There are looming speculations that it could be another accidental release similar to what happened with its Jarvis AI.

Moreover, the iOS version is said to be designed to fit into the Apple ecosystem. Consequently, users could still interact with the app while Gemini Live runs in the background, underlining integration with the Dynamic Island.

Furthermore, it is assumed that the app from Google is still in the testing phase since there is no official announcement.
