Google Releases Scanner Tool for Open-Source Developers

On Tuesday, Google launched a free scanner tool that could help open-source developers to identify information vulnerabilities.

The new product can automatically match a programmer’s code and dependencies to a list of known vulnerabilities and produce instant feedback.

Typically, such issues arise as open-source packages frequently use programs from external software libraries.

Moreover, experts noted that developers need to be aware of these vulnerabilities, which makes their tasks more complicated.

However, the new tool would simplify the programmers’ jobs since it automates both the identification and the repair of software issues.

Previously, Google released an open-source vulnerability database called the OSV.dev service, which developers could access through the new tool.

The process includes using the scanner to detect the issues and connect to the database to show them in the project.

According to specialists, Google’s service has a higher quality than its alternatives.

Additionally, it is more efficient since it minimizes the process of determining and patching the system’s vulnerabilities.

Separately, Google said developers could download the scanner on the OSV.dev website or automatically run it through the securityscorecards.dev internet page.

Looking forward, the tech firm is working on adding more features to the application to further improve its performance.
