US artificial intelligence (AI) firm OpenAI Inc. has introduced a new update for ChatGPT Plus members that would allow them to upload and examine files.
Subscribers have been provided with access to a set of new beta features that enable file uploading and analysis, as well as multimodal support, which automatically lets the company’s language model (LLM) ChatGPT choose suitable modes such as Browse with Bing from the GPT-4 dropdown.
Such a feature eliminates the need for users to switch modes manually. Instead, the generative AI chatbot will rely on context to determine members’ mode preferences, prompting ChatGPT to adapt when necessary in conversations.
The update also provides a glimpse of office features from the ChatGPT Enterprise plan and the individual subscription, with Advanced Data Analysis demonstrating capabilities including summarization of data, inquiry response, and creation of data visualization based on prompts.
Beyond text documents, the new features allow ChatGPT to discuss data files, PDFs, and other types of documents.
A ChatGPT Plus member said the chatbot can now automatically choose to run a web browser, Python code, or use AI text-to-image model DALL-E 3 to create images according to the description’s requirements in a conversation.
The chatbot’s visual communication skills have been upgraded with the integration of the DALL-E 3, which enables the chatbot to answer users’ queries with generated images.
With the new features, members can upload and ask to change an image in a single prompt within 30 seconds, reducing the need for Photoshop, according to another ChatGPT Plus user.
ChatGPT Plus is available for a subscription fee of $20 per month, with perks including general access to the chatbot even in peak hours, quicker response times, and being first in line to test new features and upgrades.
The release of the new beta features came after Microsoft Corp.-backed OpenAI formally rolled out Browse with Bing to ChatGPT.
The company said the internet-browsing feature was no longer in beta and is now officially available to ChatGPT Plus and Enterprise members. The development meant the generative AI chatbot could access real-time information online.
For subscribers, the move offers them convenience, as it replaces the beta toggle switch with the Browse with Bing option from the GPT-4 model sector.
OpenAI withdrew Browse with Bing in July due to issues about users gaining access to paid content for free.
