OpenAI Poses a Bigger Threat to Google than US Regulators

Sam Altman’s OpenAI served as a greater threat to Google despite the firm anticipating a decision from antitrust regulators on the internet search sector.

A US ruling that discovered Google established an illegal search monopoly is labeled a significant win for regulators. However, the growing number of people using artificial intelligence (AI) tools, like ChatGPT, is already damaging Google’s success.

For instance, OpenAI mentioned last month that it will participate in the search game, slow-launching SearchGPT. The AI-powered search engine has real-time access to information from the internet.

According to a former Google engineer, AI is a bigger deal than the ruling as it fundamentally changes how search products work. The worker added that the technology’s impact was immediate, and any effect from the rulings took longer to influence the market.

In its AI takeover, Apple announced a partnership with OpenAI to integrate ChatGPT into its upcoming devices. It highlighted the deal’s non-exclusive basis and discussed the possibility of adding the Alphabet-owned company as another partner.

A former senior Google executive anticipates AI moving faster than the Department of Justice’s move against the tech firm. Moreover, analysts agree that the entity’s efforts appear distorted by the onslaught of Microsoft-backed technology, which attracts young users.

Zico Kolter Hired by OpenAI as Veteran AI Professor

On Thursday, OpenAI appointed Zico Kolter, a machine learning professor and director at Carnegie Mellon University, to its board.

Its maker’s board of directors faced several charges due to rising concerns about the safety of generative artificial intelligence. This came amid the addition of more businesses’ rush to adopt the fast-growing technology.

According to the company, Kolter would join OpenAI’s safety and security committee, which includes CEO Sam Altman and its directors.

Based on its blog post, the professor contributed to developing methods for automated assessments of the safety of large language models.
