Samsung Reportedly Launching Cloud Service This Week

Samsung is reportedly releasing cloud gaming inside Samsung Game Launcher on Galaxy phones on October 5.

The new cloud service has been in beta for several months and is focused on mobile games. Unlike other cloud gaming platforms, the service usually offers personal computer (PC) and console games.

Cloud gaming makes it easy for users to access their games at any location. It is also convenient for people unable to upgrade their PC or gaming consoles.

Samsung’s strategy appears to be relatively designed to recover its revenue loss from game-install ads amid the different ad targeting restrictions implemented in the last few years.

Industry sources said the South Korean tech giant is testing the cloud service’s beta for smartphones and tablets in North America. Samsung plans to introduce the service later this month.

Samsung is discussing with international game developers to attract famous titles to the cloud gaming platform. The world’s second-largest smartphone maker is expected to offer the service for free to Galaxy users, but publishers might need to pay when they play the top games.

Further information will likely be disclosed Thursday at the Samsung Developer Conference in San Francisco.

Considering the 1 billion Galaxy smartphones bought so far worldwide, the platform is expected to help game publishers boost their client base.

An information tech industry source said Samsung’s cloud gaming platform is a win-win for the company and the game industry.

Samsung’s Gaming Ventures Helping the Market?

As Samsung’s mobile device sales drop, the South Korean tech giant is exploring different revenue sources.

Samsung earlier this year introduced the Gaming Hub game-streaming app for smart TVs. However, that combines various streaming services.

The TV platform service has helped lift the company’s revenue, according to industry sources. It reportedly receives fees from streaming services, including Netflix and Disney+, when customers use the platforms on Samsung TV.

Samsung’s new cloud service is designed for mobile phones to strengthen its market and help other game publishers. Game Launcher is a software feature on Samsung devices that provides access to games in one place.

The game industry is expected to reduce costs as Samsung reportedly intends to offer publishers platform service fees that cost less than the Apple App Store and Google Play.
