Samsung Rolls Out AI Upgrade for Select Galaxy Buds

On Tuesday, Samsung deployed an over-the-air update to add artificial intelligence (AI) features to Galaxy Buds 2, Buds 2 Pro, and Buds FE.

In January, the multinational electronics corporation released its Galaxy S24 series, its first smartphone lineup with AI features. The batch comprises three models: the standard Galaxy S24, the upgraded S24+, and the premium S24 Ultra.

Nearly a month later, Samsung announced that some of the AI capabilities introduced with the S24 would come to some of its wireless earphones. Following the update, the three Galaxy Buds models will gain access to the live translator and the live interpreter.

Galaxy Live Translate can transcribe a call, translate it, and display the translated transcript on the smartphone screen in real time. Hence, the Samsung user can engage in calls even when they do not speak the other party’s language.

Meanwhile, the AI-powered Galaxy Interpreter processes the voices of both parties on the device before sending them to the recipient. It is faster and more secure since it does not involve using cloud computing to process the voice data.

In addition, the program will automatically save an audio file so the user can review the conversation later. It can process 13 languages now, but Samsung promised to add more languages regularly.

Galaxy Buds Upgrade Proves Samsung AI Commitment

The Galaxy Buds update showed that, like other tech giants, Samsung plans to integrate more AI capabilities into its products. In its Galaxy Unpack event on January 17, the South Korean firm announced it had created its own AI model, Gauss.

Gauss intends to challenge OpenAI’s Chat Generative Pre-training Transformer (ChatGPT), the forerunner of generative AI (GenAI). Leveraging Gauss, the company plans to use expanded large language models to train its Galaxy AI.

Samsung touted Galaxy AI as its most comprehensive intelligence offering yet, promising it will revolutionize the mobile experience. Additionally, the company hinted that more products would receive the Galaxy Buds treatment this year.
