Sonos Has a New Speaker, Offering Great Sound with AirPlay 2

Today, Sonos published it as a new speaker, which is the most affordable yet. Dubbed Roam, the portable speaker not only shakes up the Sonos product line but strives to make a splash in the Bluetooth speaker market. In a follow-up to the larger Move portable speaker, the Sonos Roam is in the ultra-portable category with compelling specs and features.

Significantly, Roam offers excellent sound with AirPlay 2, auto WiFi and Bluetooth switching, Qi wireless charging, 10-hour battery life, and more.

It’s up for preorder now from Sonos directly and will begin shipping on April 20.

The highly portable speaker market is quite competitive. The Sonos Roam will be going up against products like Ultimate Ears Boom and Bose SoundLink in the $100+ range.

According to Sonos, with Roam, it was able to create the best-sounding ultra-portable premium speaker. It comes with a compact footprint of 168 x 62 x 60 mm and weighs just 0.43 kg.

Sonos Deliveries Should Start from April 20

Furthermore, with the IP67 rating, Roam has complete protection against dust, sand, etc. It can handle being in the water for half an hour at 1 meter.

The durable design also has thoughtful features like a concave top, so the users don’t push the buttons accidentally if they drop or bump Roam.

The 10-hour battery life isn’t quite as long as some of Roam’s rivals. However, it should be sufficient for all-day use for most occasions.

When it’s not in use, Sonos says Roam enters sleep mode and keeps the battery for up to 10 days.

Furthermore, it is worth noting that Roam includes AirPlay 2 support. It is probably the most compact speaker ever to offer functionality.

Significantly, Sonos Roam is available in Shadow Black and Lunar White, with pre-orders open now at $169 (£159/ €179). However, deliveries should start from April 20.
