Microsoft’s initiative reflects a proactive approach to the challenges presented by large language models (LLMs), addressing potential vulnerabilities, the emergence of unsupported yet plausible AI-generated content (hallucinations), and the prevention of malicious prompt injections—all in real-time for any model hosted on its platform.
Bird’s team has crafted a suite of tools aimed at democratising AI safety. Recognising that not all customers possess deep knowledge of prompt injection attacks or how to handle content that could be considered hateful, Microsoft’s solution involves an evaluation system that automatically generates prompts to simulate various types of attacks. This allows customers to obtain a score and visualise the outcomes, thus facilitating a deeper understanding and control over the AI models they deploy. Azure AI offers a robust framework for identifying and mitigating risks associated with generative AI technologies by integrating features such as Prompt Shields, Groundedness Detection, and comprehensive safety evaluations. These features are instrumental in preventing controversies due to AI-generated content, such as explicit or historically inaccurate images or inappropriate use of AI models.
Azure AI’s new safety features significantly advance responsible AI deployment. Prompt Shields effectively guard against malicious prompts and prompt injections, ensuring that external commands do not compel models to act contrary to their training. Groundedness Detection works to identify and eliminate hallucinations, enhancing the reliability of AI-generated content. Additionally, safety evaluations thoroughly assess model vulnerabilities, empowering Azure customers with the tools needed to direct models towards safe outputs and monitor for potentially problematic users. These capabilities underscore Microsoft’s commitment to creating a safer, more reliable AI ecosystem for all users, regardless of their expertise in AI or security.
