LUKOIL Builds Solar Plant in Kazakhstan for Sustainable Energy

LUKOIL is starting the construction of a solar power plant in Almaty region, Kazakhstan, a significant step towards sustainable energy and reducing carbon emissions. This project reflects LUKOIL’s dedication to energy efficiency and aligns with the global trend towards sustainable energy production.

The solar power plant, designed with a 4.95 megawatts (MW) capacity, strategically adjoins the LUKOIL lubricants plant. This wholly-owned subsidiary provides production facilities with eco-friendly solar energy. Moreover, the project’s initiation underscores LUKOIL’s commitment to integrating renewable energy into its operations, thus aiding the global fight against climate change. In addition, the initial phase of construction, comprising a 2 MW capacity, is slated for completion by 2024. This will mark a significant milestone in Kazakhstan’s renewable energy sector.

Renewable Energy Progress in Kazakhstan

Kazakhstan’s commitment to renewable energy is evident in its energy infrastructure. It includes 222 power plants and 146 renewable energy facilities, boasting a total capacity of 2.8 GW.

As of January 1, 2024, Kazakhstan’s total available power capacity reached 20.4 GW. It is a recorded maximum consumption of 16.6 GW during the current autumn-winter period. Additionally, LUKOIL’s solar power plant construction aligns with Kazakhstan’s broader objectives of diversifying its energy sources and reducing reliance on fossil fuels.
