Telegram lets users transfer chat history from other apps

Telegram, instant messaging app, has introduced a new feature which will enable users to transfer their chat history from apps like WhatsApp. Moreover, the new feature allows Telegram users to transfer documents and videos from individual and group chats.

The Verge announced that users would not lose their chat history while shifting on to the new platform. On iOS, the feature showed up with version 7.4, published on Thursday and spotted by 9to5Mac.

The company has reported that the new feature is accessible for Android. Like WhatsApp, users can also transfer conversations from Line and KakaoTalk.

Meanwhile, on iOS users can transfer chats from WhatsApp into the most recent version (7.4.1) of Telegram and proceed with the conversation. Each WhatsApp user has a Telegram account.

The expansion of the element comes as Telegram details tremendous expansions in user numbers, with its service presently gloating over 500 million dynamic users worldwide.

To transfer a chat from WhatsApp on iOS, open the Contact Info or Group Info page in WhatsApp, click Export Chat, and then choose Telegram in the Share menu.

Telegram servers do not save information about deleted chats and call history

Furthermore, the instant messages app claims that the media or conversations will not take up extra space despite moving the chat. Older apps save all data on the device. The company also claims that its servers do not save information about deleted chats and call history. However, users can decide to bring in WhatsApp chat accounts with or without their pictures.

WhatsApp recently met a criticism due to their new privacy policy. Other privacy-centric messaging applications like Telegram and Signal took centre stage in January. Telegram claims that it has added more than 100 million users in January. The new chat transfer feature enables users to shift to the new messaging application easily.
