Huawei Plans on Launching 5.5G Commercial Products

In 2024, Chinese telecom giant, Huawei, announced they would release a complete set of commercial 5.5G network equipment.

The announcement was at the 5G Advanced Forum at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) Shanghai 2023. Its director and president of ICT products and solutions made the statement. Also, they said that they aim to mark the beginning of the 5.5G era in the industry.

Moreover, Huawei suggested the concept based on an end-to-end solution that uses comprehensive technologies. It would secure operators’ existing 5G investments and significantly improve network performance. 

Their 5.5G Era will promote 10-gigabit peak downlink speeds and uplink speeds for service requirements. In addition, it will improve the vision of the industry. They would utilize new technologies, such as passive IoT, to access 100 billion connections.

Furthermore, Huawei was working with several players in the R&D industry and verification of vital technologies. They have achieved major progress in the verification process, mainly on extremely large antenna arrays (ELAA). 

The tech firm collaborated with more than 30 operators globally on technical verification and application pilots.

Besides the 5.5G wireless and optical networks, Huawei will integrate artificial intelligence (AI)- native technologies into 5.5G core systems. This would enable AI to deliver to networks serving many industries.

Meng Wanzhou from Huawei Admits 5G Difficulty

On Wednesday, Meng Wanzhou, Chief Financial Officer of Huawei, said their 5G technology application to business was complex.

The 5G connectivity is expected to have faster mobile phone connections for consumers. Its technology can provide better self-driving vehicles and factory industrialization.

Meng stated that the challenges of bringing the new connectivity to the Huawei business were underestimated. Besides, it is significantly different from the previous generations, like 2G, 3G, and 4G. 

She added that when 5G becomes a significant part of the ecosystem, it will be easy to realize operations at scale. On the other hand, the tech giant plans on selling cloud services to particular industries like mining and finance.
