Meta CTO Claims Top-Notch AR Glasses Tech On The Planet

Meta reportedly has plans to unveil its augmented reality (AR) glasses, claimed as the ‘most advanced technology on the planet.’

Since November 2022, Artificial Intelligence (AI) has dominated tech discussions with the launch of OpenAI’s ChatGPT, gaining attention for its human-like responses. Over time, ChatGPT received enhancements, soon to include real-time browsing.

Meanwhile, Google and Microsoft also entered the AI chatbot arena. Notably, Meta was missing until September, when it revealed smart glasses and an AI assistant.

According to reports, Meta Chief Technology Officer (CTO) Andrew Bosworth claimed that their AR glasses are unparalleled technology within their field.

Bosworth asserted that their smart glasses could be humanity’s most advanced creation.

The eyewear is unlikely to be released before the decade concludes, and internally, it is referred to as “Project Nazare.” Reports show that these glasses are being developed for a future in which smartphones will no longer be necessary.

According to reports, Meta employees have been working towards unveiling the prototype by 2024, with plans to introduce lighter and more advanced designs in 2026 and 2028. These glasses may offer immersive experiences beyond typical video calls, allowing users to interact with holograms of other individuals.

However, addressing obstacles remains a priority, especially in developing transparent and economical displays. Bosworth recognized the importance of progress in manufacturing materials and ensuring ample power to reduce the necessity for frequent charging.

Despite these challenges, he expressed confidence in the potential of AI advancements to augment the glasses’ functionality beyond initial projections. Including a highly effective AI assistant could also impact design considerations, although specific details regarding AI integration were not provided.

Meta’s Smart Glasses Debut

Meta, in collaboration with Ray-Ban, unveiled its latest smart glasses in September, boasting features like music playback, photo capture, and video recording.

Notably, the glasses allow users to livestream their perspective directly on Facebook and Instagram. The glasses feature a conspicuous pulsating white light around the lens during recording.

Meta highlighted their potential for creators, allowing effortless first-person point of view (POV) live streaming, where users can see comments in the preview or hear them aloud, fostering real-time engagement with their community.

Meanwhile, the announcement underscores Meta’s commitment to integrating advanced functionalities into wearable technology, offering users an immersive and interactive way to share their experiences seamlessly on popular social media platforms.
