Meta Halts Data Center Expansion in Denmark

Meta cancelled its contract with the construction company Per Aarsleff Holding A/S to build two new data centers in Denmark.

The move would include the cancellation of contracts for existing design with contractors.

This decision came after Meta permanently postponed a similar project in Netherlands due to the resistance of local politicians.

Originally, the two data centers located in Odense Campus was scheduled to be completed next year and is set to open in 2025.

Moreover, the construction began with the expansion of the already installed, canteen, cables, foundations, and parking space.

However, Meta confirmed that it is completely halting the project on Thursday.

The tech Giant stated that they made such move to focus on upgrading their facilities for artificial intelligence support

Accordingly, the move aligns with the firm’s previous announcement to reexamine its development plans, ensuring that the new data centers could handle AI workloads.

Despite this, analyst may welcome this decision since it would lessen the company’s infrastructure expenditure.

Furthermore, Meta would be watched by the data center development community since it is one of the largest employers of the developers.

Separately, the tech firm’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg recently announced his plan to cut 11,000 jobs due to poor earnings and disappointing revenue.

Facebook Parent Meta Focuses on User’s Safety

On Thursday, Meta announced on its end-of-year recap news that they focused on improving the safety and security of their platforms in 2022.

Previously, the tech firm emphasized its goal to remove spyware and identity bugs.

Consequently, Meta stated in its report that they had taken down such threats since 2017.

Moreover, it specified that the issues originated from 68 countries, adding that the target was mostly the United States.

Furthermore, the tech firm had blocked some infrastructure and disabled accounts in its platforms.

In addition, Meta stated they immediately inform companies or people about threats since most were not even aware that they were at risk.
