Microsoft to Reportedly Launch AI-Powered Surface Laptops

US’s Microsoft is reportedly preparing to upgrade its Surface laptop lineup by adding new features powered by artificial intelligence (AI).

Sources familiar with the matter said the upcoming Surface Pro 10 and Laptop 6 will include a next-gen neural processing unit (NPU) plus Intel and Arm-based choices.

Windows Central reported that Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon X chips will enable Microsoft’s devices that use Arm architecture.

The personal computers (PCs), known as CADMUS, are believed to be built to operate the upcoming AI features that the Washington-based firm is including in a future Windows launch.

The PCs are also expected to present enhanced performance, battery life, and security similar to Apple’s silicon technology. Meanwhile, the devices’ Intel variant will reportedly have the company’s most recent 14th-gen chips.

Additionally, the Surface Pro 10 could have a more luminous display supporting high dynamic range (HDR) with anti-glare coating and resolution options of 2160 x 1440 or 2880 x 1920.

The device may also feature rounded corners like the Surface Laptop Studio lineup and support a new Type Cover with a Windows Copilot button.

For the Laptop 6, its smaller version will have a larger 13.8-inch display, while the 15-inch model will maintain its size.

Surface Laptops Further Updates Ahead: Report

The spotlight for 2024 is expected to be on the Surface Pro 10 and Surface Laptop 6, while there are also speculations about another Surface Laptop Go, but the details are still unclear.

Microsoft is believed to be contemplating building a commercial-exclusive model of the Surface Pro and Surface Laptop that retains the existing designs of the Laptop 5 and Surface Pro 9, although featuring Intel’s 14th-Gen chips and some minor upgrades.

Beyond next year, the tech giant is reportedly developing a more major design overhaul for the Surface Pro series, aiming for a late 2025 launch.

Details on the update are yet to be known, but sources said Microsoft is considering an 11-inch design update for the Surface Pro alongside a standard 13-inch one.

The company is also developing the next version of the Surface Laptop Studio, slated for a late 2025 release, with plans to offer the PC in both Intel and Arm versions.
