South Korean tech giant Samsung steps up its artificial intelligence (AI) efforts, disclosing its newest Galaxy S24 and “Galaxy AI” expected to roll out in 2024.
The world’s largest smartphone maker shared its aspiration for AI through the generative AI model “Gauss.” Considering the timing, it might be possible for Samsung to equip Gauss AI with Galaxy S24 when it releases next year.
Samsung coined Galaxy AI to collectively refer to various AI-powered features coming to Galaxy phones.
The company described “Galaxy AI” as a comprehensive, never-before-seen phone intelligence that can address critical areas like barrier-free communication, streamlined productivity, and unrestricted creativity.
Galaxy AI operates using Samsung’s on-device AI and cloud-based AI that is powered by their partnerships with industry leaders. The company said it would change users’ mobile experience and promises Galaxy security and privacy they can confidently rely on.
Samsung has also announced its live translate tool, AI Live Translate Call. The feature will provide real-time audio and text translations when a user answers a call with someone who speaks another language.
The introduction of Galaxy AI seems to only be the start, with Samsung foreseeing a future where mobile AI improves life experiences. The company encouraged people to prepare for the upcoming era of mobile AI, hinting at several features to come soon.
Features of Samsung’s Gauss Unveiled
Samsung revives its rivalry with Apple and other tech giants in the booming AI market, revealing Samsung Gauss, its generative AI model.
Samsung Research Global AI Center executive vice president Kim Dae-hyun stated during the model’s unveiling at an AI forum in Suwon that they would keep supporting and teaming up with industry and academia on generative AI research.
Gauss, named after renowned mathematician Carl Friedrich Gauss, is equipped with Samsung Language, Samsung Gauss Code, and Samsung Gauss Image, which are expected to offer new user experiences of the company’s products.
Samsung Gauss Language boosts work efficiency with functions such as email composition, document summarization, and content translation. The model can also improve user experience through a more intelligent device control.
Samsung Gauss Code and a coding assistant, code.i, are designed for insourcing, enabling easy and fast coding for software developers. It also enables code description and test case generation via an interactive interface.
Samsung Gauss Image generates and edits creative images, including functions like style changes and additions and enhancing an image’s resolution.
